What are the Qualifications for a CHP Officer?

As of June 2015, requirements are:

Age: 20-35 years as of the written test. 

Possess a California driver's license

Be a US citizen, either by birth or naturalization

Hold a high school diploma or equivalent GED

How many people apply to the CHP?

10,000 applications per year for Officer positions. Only 5-6% of all applicants will be successful. Good preparation is essential.

When/where are the CHP exams scheduled?

The eight regional CHP divisions have their own schedules published on the official CHP Careers Site. The entry exams are typically conducted as follows: The Physical Abilities Test on Saturday, followed by the written exam the next day, on Sunday, if you pass the PAT.

 How many questions are on the CHP exam?

Approximately 120 total questions in the following mix: Writing Clarity - 20, Spelling - 20, Vocabulary - 20, Reading Comprehension - 20 and CLOZE - 40. Test time is approx. 3 hours. (Logical Reasoning - dropped)
